Abstract
189,657. Blyth, C. E. Dec. 12, 1921. Density separators.-Dust-laden air is cleaned mainly by a rotating member in an enclosed chamber, the rotating member being arranged to intercept the suspended particles and to deliver them centrifugally outside the air current. In the form of separator shown in Figs. 1 and 2, for dealing with comparatively coarse material, the air is first admitted to a cyclone chamber 2 where the heaviest particles are deposited. From this chamber the gas passes into a chamber 3 where it impinges on a rotating concave plate 4 which effects a further separation. The plate 4 may be of spider form provided with flanges or channels to throw the particles clear of the air current. Finer particles are separated from the air by the rotary member 6, which may be secured to the shaft of the plate 4, and consists of a close series of radial vanes 9 flanged along one edge 10. The gas leaves the chamber by the outlet 7 which may be cowled as shown, and an exhaust fan mav be arranged within the housing 11 from which the purified air escapes through the opening 12. The separated particles in the chambers 2, 3 may be discharged through a rotary valve 13 or through a canvas sleeve. In a modification, the apparatus is arranged for a vertical drive.
