Abstract

722,120. Centrifugal separators; pneumatic separating. MIAG MUEHLENBAU UND INDUSTRIE GES. March 28, 1952 [April 2, 1951], No. 8008/52. Classes 23 and 117. A separator for solids entrained in a gaseous carrier comprises an inner chamber 7 open at its lower end and having an upper end adapted to be partly opened, an inlet 4 entering the chamber tangentially, and an outer casing 9 having an outlet 1 for lighter solids and means 20 for discharge of heavier solids. The left and right-hand sides of the Figure show different embodiments of the invention. Solids entrained in air are directed by the inlet 4 to whirl within the bell-shaped chamber 7. Solids centrifugally separated from the air collect between the wall of the chamber and an annular baffle 11, and are discharged in decending streams 15. The current 14 of separated air from the centre of the baffle passes through the decending solids and carries away the lighter solids to discharge them at 1. The heavier solids collect at the bottom of the casing 9 and are discharged by the rotary value 20. The separation may be controlled by adjusting openings 3, 19. As shown in the right-hand side of the Figure the solids collected between the baffle and the wall are discharged through an annular gap closed by a flexible annulus 13 forming a non-return valve, and as shown in the left-hand side of the Figure the solids are discharged through apertures 18.
