Abstract

1,226,649. Centrifugal strainers. KRAUSSMAFFEI A.G. 8 Nov., 1968 [15 Dec., 1967], No. 53080/68. Heading B1D A suspension undergoes a preliminary separation in a centrifugal strainer 2 or 3 removably mounted in a hollow perforated member 12 secured to the shaft 14. Next, the suspension creeps up the walls of a centrifuge 5; the separated liquid forms a film adhering to the rounded surfaces of annular members 4 while exiting radially outwardly into chamber 16 through gaps 10, the solid residues continuing to travel upwardly and eventually leave ing near the top of the centrifuge, e.g. via a discharge zone 11. As described, the strainer is hemipsherical (shown as "3") or frustoconical ("2") and is reinforced by rings 3a or 2a, being supported by members 17-19. A baffle 20 provides a narrow gap 21, which prevents excessively rapid flow from the strainer 3 to the centrifuge 5.
