Abstract

1,001,164. Centrifugal strainer separators. S. SUMIYA. Aug. 28, 1963 [Sept. 4, 1962 (2); Oct. 6, 1962; Oct. 23, 1962], No. 34103/63. Heading B1D. A downwardly-suspended open-bottomed centrifugal strainer separator is driven by a hollow shaft through which extends a rod reciprocatable by a hydraulic piston-cylinder device to operate a disc-shaped scraper. The drum wall is provided with a filtering screen formed of dimpled plates, face-contacting and arranged with the larger dimensions radial to provide edgewise flow. Feed is into a "dish" within a flange upstanding from the drum top and thence through holes in the drum top Washing is by liquid supplied either through spray pipes upstanding, or a further annular region on the drum top, and further holes through the drum top. Separate-liquid collection may be provided ; in one embodiment a stirrer for the solids in the hopper may be provided. Specification 738,825 is referred to.
