Abstract

<PICT:0708590/III/1> A mixture of vegetable mineral or animal oil and an adsorbing or neutralizing agent is separated by passing the mixture through a rotary separator to which washing liquid is supplied so as to form an annulus between the oil and the sludge which is formed mainly by the agent, the sludge being stirred and conveyed to an outlet and the purified oil and liquid being discharged through separate outlets. The washing liquid is immiscible with the oil, and has a density between the densities of the oil and the sludge. As shown, a screw conveyer and stirrer 6 within the separator bowl 1 rotates at a different speed from that of the bowl. The oil and agent mixture is supplied by a channel 10 and holes 11, 12 to the separating chamber 2 containing a disc-pack 3. The washing liquid supplied by a pipe 14 passes through holes 15, chamber 8, and annular opening 21 to form the annulus between the sludge and the oil before discharging through the outlet 17. The purified oil passes through holes 20 in the disc-pack, and is discharged through the outlet 16. The sludge is forced by the conveyer to the chamber 8, where some of the liquid adhering to the sludge particles is separated before discharge of the sludge through the outlet 18.
