Abstract

997,949. Valve and semi-conductor limiting circuits. RANK-BUSH MURPHY Ltd. July 16, 1962 [July 14, 1961], No. 25581/61. Headings H3P, H3T and H3W. A signal limiting circuit comprises a pair of transistors or valves 16, 18 coupled by a common emitter or cathode resistor 17, the input signal being applied to the base or grid of one and also through a voltage divider 14, 15 and a peak rectifier 19 to the base or grid of the other, output signals being derived from one of the transistors or valves (e.g. at 23). The two transistors in the circuit shown act as a comparator so that the output voltage switches between two values when the input signal derived from a photocell 11 passes a threshold value produced by the peak rectifier and which, since R14 equals R15 is equal to half the peak value. Inaccuracy due to the voltage drop across the emitter-base path of transistor 19 may be removed by connecting a similar transistor acting as an emitter follower between the emitter of 13 and the base of 19. Where the photo-cell is replaced by a source of D.C. television synchronizing signals a D.C. restorer must be inserted in the input circuit.
