Abstract

808,331. Transistor pulse amplifying circuits. NATIONAL CASH REGISTER CO. May 15, 1957 [June 8, 1956], No. 15373/57. Class 40 (6). In a circuit employing a transistor 11 to the base of which an input pulse 23 is applied, a feedback circuit 16 is arranged to prevent current flowing in the base circuit from exceeding a certain value. By connecting the diode 16 to the collector and a tapping on the base resistor 19, the collector is prevented from rising to such a potential that saturation of the transistor occurs. The resistor 19 is shunted by a capacitor 21 to ensure the maintenance of a sharp leading pulse edge. When the input pulse 23 occurs at time t1, Fig. 2, the collector potential rises rapidly to near earth but is prevented from entering the saturation region due to diode 16 becoming conductive to pass current through part of resistor 19, thereby preventing any further rise in base and collector current. At the end of the pulse, t2, the positive-going edge is fed over capacitor 21 to the base to drive out minority carriers, thereby terminating the output pulse 24. The waveform 36 is that which would result in the absence of feedback diode 16.
