Abstract

997,242. Knitting. SCHUBERT & SALZER MASCHINENFABRIK A.G. Nov. 27, 1961 [March 10, 1961], No. 42278/61. Headings D1C and D1K. [Also in Division F2] A two or more feeder circular knitting machine has means for varying the stitch length smoothly in both the wale and weft directions over part of the circumference of a knitted article e.g.: to form a heel bulge. As shown, stitch cams I, II, III and IV biased upwardly by springs F have bolts 83 which engage levers 82 connected to levers 8 carrying rollers R which engage cam 1. The angles between the radii connecting the stitch cams to the cylinder axis are equal to the angles between the lines joining the corresponding rollers R to the axis of rotation of cam 1 which is keyed on shaft 11 rotated synchronously with the needle cylinder. Cam 1 is slid on shaft 11 between positions A and B by a fork 13 having a groove 13 engaged by a crank pin 15 on a wheel 14. Rotation of wheel 14 to adjust cam 1 and hence to vary the stitch length progressively is controlled by the pattern chain through a ratchet and pawl and gearing. Cam 1 is shaped so that its action through rollers R on the stitch cams produces the variation in stitchlength in the wale and weft directions. The cam 1 may have, Fig. 5, a portion 2 which is adjusted by screw 21 and locked by screws 23 mounted in slots. The cam followers may be moved instead of the cam.
