A cam system for a superposed cylinder machine includes forward and reverse stitch cams 1, 3 which are individually settable but adjustable in unison during knitting. The cams and their respective guard cams 2, 4 are fixed to blocks 9, 10 slidable vertically by pressure of one end of pivoted levers 13, 17. The depending arms of the levers engage recesses 12a, b in a ring 12 rotated by lever 21 at the dictates of the main pattern drum. The cams are individually settable by screws 15, 19 bearing on projections 9a, 10a of the blocks.
