Abstract
202,448. Brasch, W. June 9, 1922. Circular machines. -The thread guide for producing the high splice " above a stocking heel is intermittently brought into operation for successively increasing periods of time, a triangular reinforced area being thus obtained by means of a device applicable to automatic circular machines in general and operating as follows. A shaft 21 continuously rotated from the main drive gear 8 through intermediate gears 17, 23, carries a drum 25 with opposed helical cam faces 26, 28 between which, on the plain part of the drum, rides a cam finger 37 when the guide is in operative position. As the drum is rotated the cam 37 mounts the faces 26 or 28 and a bell crank arm 33 to which the cam 37 is attached is moved against spring action, and by means of intermediate connections raises the guide out of action. In order that the guide may be in action for successively increasing periods of time the shaft 21 is intermittently traversed in the direction of the arrow Fig. 4 by a sliding rack 45 driven by a pawl 64 on a lever 16 operated by cams 9 on the wheel 8. The rack is advanced against the action of a spring 54 and is retained by a check pawl 70, which rides idly on a plate. When the rack 45 &c. have been fully advanced. After the high splice is finished and before the commencement of the next high splice a lever under the control of the pattern drum lifts a plate 79 and trips the pawls 64, 70 and permits the spring 54 to return the parts to the initial position.
