996,515. Container closures; package closures; opening containers. BRITISH XYLONITE CO. Ltd. May 22, 1963 [Sept. 28, 1962], No. 36820/62. Headings B8C, B8D and B8T. A container 1, e.g. of polyethylene has its neck rim 3 heat sealed by a flexible closure 4 comprising a metal-foil thermoplastic laminate with a tear tab 8. The closure, which is shaped to correspond with that of the container rim, may be of aluminium foil 9 with a backing 10 of polythene. Apparatus for applying the closure includes a rotary table 19 with circumferentially spaced recesses to receive polythene bottles 25 to which closures have been loosely applied. At the sealing station a heated die 30 is lowered by an air cylinder 28 on to the closure, and at the next adjacent station a similar but cooling die is lowered on to the closure.
