995,525. Dry shavers. PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 3, 1964 [March 6, 1963], No. 8948/64. Heading B4B. [Also in Division E2] A dry shaver comprises a shaving head 1 which is pivotally supported on the shaver housing 2 by means of a spring 20, the ends 15 of which are secured to the head 1 and the transverse portion 17 of which bears against the inclined surface of the housing 2, the head 1 being normally retained in its closed position by means of a U-shaped spring 8, the ends of which are fixed in the housing 2 and the transverse portion 10 of which engages a catch 12 fixed to the head 1, the arrangement being such that when the spring 8 is disengaged from the catch 12 by pressing a push-button 13, the portion 17 of the spring 20 slides up the inclined surface of the housing and the head 1 is pushed open by the spring until the portion 17 engages an abutment 23. The spring 20 is pivoted towards the head 1 by a torsion spring 19 fixed to the head; alternatively, the spring 19 is omitted and the ends 15 of the spring 20 used as torsion rods. The head 1 closes a chamber 3 through which one or more driving spindles extend, as indicated by line 4, for driving one or more rotary cutters located in cavities 5 in the head 1 and which co-operate with shear plates mounted in apertures in the head 1.
