Abstract
1,100,363. Cutting tools. SCOVILL MANUFACTURING CO. 2 June, 1966 [24 Jan., 1966], No. 24725/66. Heading B4B. [Also in Division E2] A power-operated knife comprises a housing 10, a pair of reciprocable blades (12), Fig. 1 (not shown), having tangs 11 for insertion in the housing, a pair of blade drivers 14, 15 each having an opening 23 through its side wall, and a blade retainer plate 25 loosely mounted adjacent each driver and having a tang-engaging portion 28, 29, 30 extending through the opening 23 in the blade driver, the plates 25 being bodily movable when contacted by projections 13 on the tangs when the latter are inserted between them and the plates, each having a non-fixed fulcrum 26 and having a portion 32 engageable by the head 44 of a button 40, when a member 41 of the button is depressed against the action of a spring 43, to pivot the plate 25 about its fulcrum to release the tangs, the portions 32 being contacted by leaf springs 36 held by ears 24 on the blade drivers. The projections 13 are engageable in slots 34 in the portions 29 of the plates 25. The blade drivers 14, 15 have their inner ends engaged by motordriven eccentrics whereby the blades are reciprocated in opposite directions.
