Abstract

993,681. Cleaning heat exchangers. BURMEISTER & WAIN'S MASKIN-OG SKIBSBYG-GERI A. S. May 23, 1963 [June 13, 1962],No. 20669/63. Heading F2N. [Also in Division B2] In a method of cleaning heat-exchangers or like units with balls or shot the cleaning balls are delivered to the unit 1 from an upper container 2 and after passing through it are carried to a lower collecting container 3 from which, after separation of the soot and ashes by liquid flow, are transported back to the upper container by liquid flow for re-use. The liquid used is alkalized water, part of which is directed through the unit together with the balls. Inside the container 3 is a socket 9 in which the balls meet a countercurrent of the liquid travelling at a speed lower than the falling velocity of the balls, whereby the balls travel on whilst the liquid rinses the soot and ash out through a pipe 10 and ball trap 11. The container 3 has a drainage pipe 14 and a liquid ejector 12 produces a flow sufficient to return the balls to container 2 up the pipe 13. There may be a plurality of upper and/or lower containers.
