Abstract
1311794 Magnetic separators A J K REID and P R GLANVILLE 19 April 1971 [3 March 1970] 10234/70 Heading B2J [Also in Division C1] Black iron oxide entrained in water circulating in a fluid flow system is removed by directing some of the water flowing along a main flow path into a by-pass line, and directing water flowing in the by-pass line past an electromagnet before returning it to the main flow path, the electromagnet being periodically deenergised and a flushing valve opened whereby iron oxide particles collected by the electromagnet are flushed out of the system. As described, a magnetic separator chamber connected in the by-pass line 25, 26 comprises an electro-magnet coil 14 with concentric pole pieces 12, 20 located beneath a partition 27 which together with the walls of a manifold 23 may form part of the magnetic circuit. A flushing outlet with a valve (not shown) is provided at 31 and an air vent at 30.
