Abstract
1379394 Magnetic separators UNION CARBIDE CORP 6 Dec 1971 [7 Dec 1970] 56508/71 Heading B2J A magnetic separator comprises a superconducting magnet 12 surrounding a hollow tube 14 having an inlet opening 16 through which is fed a carrier medium, e.g. air, water or an inert gas, containing ore in particulate form; and a second tube 26 arranged concentrically within the tube 14 as shown. In operation, the magnetically susceptible particles 11 in the ore are attracted to the periphery of the tube 14 and pass to an outlet 34 whilst the non-magnetic particles remain in the central vicinity of the tube 14 and pass into the tube 26 for separate collection at outlet 32. To effect a greater separation the carrier meduim collected in tube 26 may be recycled back into the same or a different separator.
