Abstract
807,118. Magnetic separators. ERZBERGBAU SALZGITTER A. G. Dec. 7, 1956 [Feb. 25. 1956], No. 37406/56. Class 117. In the magnetic separation of fine-grained pulverulent or dust-like material, particularly ores in such form, air is mixed with the material to be treated, the air and material then passing to a separating zone or zones each including a rotating polepiece ; reduced air pressure originating downstream of the separating zone or zones assists the passage of the airmaterial mixture through the zone(s). In Fig. 1, air from a conduit 10 passes via spaces between plates 8 into a centre portion of a casing containing material to be treated, the material and the air passing through a gap 5 between a rotating pole-piece 3 and a fixed pole 4 ; additional air is drawn through the top of the gap. The magnetic and non- magnetic constituents of the material pass into chambers 14, 15 and suction conduits 16, 17 enable air pressure in the chambers to be reduced. A core 1 is magnetized by a coil 2. In a further construction, Fig. 2, two separating zones 24, 25 are provided, and the non-magnetic material from both passes into a channel 33. Air passes into a material container 26 via two porous ceramic plates 27, 28 which form part of an inner casing 29 having a compressed air inlet 30.
