Abstract
804,638. Filtering liquids. SPODIG, H. Jan. 2, 1957 [Jan. 3, 1956], No. 213/57. Class 46. [Also in Group II] A filter, for separating both ferro-magnetic and non-ferro-magnetic particles from liquid, media, comprises a ferro-magnetic casing 2 enclosing a permanent magnet filtering unit and a mechanical filtering unit, the magnetic unit including a magnet 6 inserted in a cup member 5 surrounded by the mechanical unit e.g. annular discs 8 of porous sintered material and one pole of the magnet being in contact directly or indirectly with the casing 2. The annular discs may contain alternate layers of magnetic and non-magnetic material. The cup 5 is tapered internally from the neutral part of the magnet to leave a gap 9 between itself and the magnet pole which as shown, contacts a projection 7 on the casing 2 but may contact the casing directly. The gap 9 is either filled with non- magnetic material or protected by a screen 10. In a modification two magnets are mounted end to end, the gap 9 of the upper compartment 5 pointing upwards.
