Abstract

1459028 Magnetic separators KLOCKNERHUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 26 April 1974 [27 April 1973] 18420/74 Heading B2J A magnetic separator comprises a channel 1 for a carrier medium such as air or water; a nozzle 3 for feeding raw material, such as a fine-grained solid containing magnetizable particles, into the carrier medium, the nozzle terminating in the channel 1 at a location spaced from a wall portion 4 of the channel; an electromagnetic coil 2, e.g. of the superconducting type, for establishing a magnetic field in the vicinity of the wall 4; and an intermittently moving or rotatable scraper 5 for removing the magnetizable particles which adhere to the wall 4 during operation of the separator, 'the removed particles being discharged through an outlet 6. The nozzle 3 may be rectangular in cross-section (Fig. 2, not shown), and the wall portion 4 may be constituted by a conveyor belt (10) Fig. 3 (not shown) which transports the adherent particles to an outlet (11) for removal by a scraper (12). A multistage embodiment, with a plurality of coils, is described with reference to Fig. 4 (not shown).
