Abstract

991,477. Filters for liquids; magnetic separators. H. SOMMERMEYER. March 27, 1962, No. 11736/62. Headings BID and B2J. A perforate member 5 (optionally ferromagnetic), spaced from a housing 1 and a magnet body 4, has an opening 6 oposite the inlet 2 of the aparatus. Turbulence in the space between members 4 and 5 is reduced, with consequent gravity-deposition of some impurities; "magnet" impurities are held by body 4 (and member 5 if ferromagnetic). In Fig. 2 (not shown), the outlet 3 is located 90 degrees from the inlet 2 instead of being diametrically opposite; and'a baffle across the space between members 5 and 1 prevents direct flow thereto. In Fig. 3 (not shown), two concentric members 5 are provided. Body 4 may be a permanent magnet, or it may be of soft iron rendered magnetic by an external or contacting permanent magnet or solenoid. In Fig. 4 (not shown), one member 5 of star-shaped cross-section is provided.
