Abstract

926,358. Separating dust from gases. JAMES HOWDEN & CO. Ltd. April 12, 1961 [July 18, 1960], No. 25042/60. Class 8(2). A dust separator for handling a gas flow from which it is required to separate dust at intermittent periods only, comprises a plurality of vanes 5 which are disposed in the path of the gas flowing through the separator from an inlet 1 to an outlet 2, the vanes being movable from a first position shown in Fig. 1 in which they cause abrupt change of direction in the gas flow so as to separate the dust therefrom, to a second position, Fig. 2 (not shown), in which they serve to guide the gas flow to the outlet. The movable vanes 5 are associated with fixed vanes 6. The separated dust is deposited in a hopper 7 having an outlet 4 and the flow of dust into the hopper is assisted by a recirculation flow of gas maintained by the static pressure difference between slots A and B provided by an inclined plate 3 extending across the separator. Specification 539,183 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
