Abstract

1,119,699. Distillation columns; separating particles from gases. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ. N.V. 6 June, 1966 [8 June, 1965], No. 25130/66. Headings B1B and BIT. A mixture of liquid and vapours, supplied to a distillation column through inlet 2, is separated into liquid and vapour by a series of curved guiding vanes 3 placed one behind the other in the column in the direction of flow of the mixture and arranged so that each vane intercepts and deflects part of the mixture. The vanes are bounded on the sides by walls 4 and 5; and a top wall 6 is also provided so that a box-like arrangement is formed. The separated vapour flows up the column on either side of the 'box. Separation devices are also described which has two series of vanes arranged in pairs opposite each other. Each vane may be provided at the outlet end with a liquid-collecting channel 32 (Fig. 6) secured to the vanes by means of a bolt through apertures 35, 36. The collected liquid flows off the sides of the channel.
