Abstract
1,084,292. Evaporators; plate-type. A.P.V. CO. Ltd. March 1, 1966 [April 8, 1965], No. 15011/65. Heading B1B In a plate-type evaporator comprising alternate passages for heating-medium and for liquid-to-be-boiled, the boiling passages P include two or more rising passages in parallel from which the boiling liquid and vapour flows through a transport port T" leading to a lesser number of falling passages and a discharge port. As shown, the liquid, supplied through inlet C, flows up through two pairs of rising passages P 1 , P 2 and P 4 , P 5 ; and the boiling liquid and vapour then flows down the central falling passage to discharge conduit D. Each rising passage may be tapered towards the top by spacers on the plates. The falling passage may be tapered towards the bottom, or the spacing between the plates defining the falling passage may be increased. The evaporator is suitable for the concentration of orange juice and other heat-sensitive liquids.
