[Also in Division F4] A column such as one in which a liquid is contacted with a vapour has vertically spaced horizontal trays across which a liquid can flow in contact with a vapour rising through slots in the trays, each tray being formed of two plates welded together at a series of spaced parallel areas in which rows of slots such as 44 are formed, the unwelded areas being expanded to form channels 42 between the plates and through which a heat exchange fluid can be passed from a common feed header to a common discharge header. In a modification the unwelded areas of only one plate is expanded to form semi-circular channels between the plates.
