Abstract

1,035,336. Plate heat-exchangers. O. MONTZ. Feb. 27, 1963 [Feb. 28, 1962], No. 7894/63. Heading F4K. [Also in Division B1] A column for heat and/or mass exchange between a downflowing liquid and an ascending gas comprises a plurality of horizontal, vertically spaced trays which intercommunicate through downflow channels, each channel being defined by one or more vertical plates attached to a tray and by part of the inside wall of the shell of the column, and support means fixed to said shell for detachably and elevationally adjustably carrying said trays. As shown, the vertically spaced trays are mounted in a shell 1 and comprise centrally apertured trays 5a alternating with trays 5b which are spaced from the shell at their opposite sides. Channels 4b between the trays 5b and the central apertures of trays 5a are defined by parallel plates 3 and further plates 3 define, with the walls of the shell 1, channels 4a which lead from the sides of trays 5b to the periphery of trays 5a. The plates 3 are detachably and elevationally adjustably secured by brackets 12 (Fig. 3, not shown) to supporting strips 2 which are welded to the shell 1 and carry bolts 6 on which the trays 5a and 5b are adjustably mounted. The upper edges 3a of the plates 3 are crenellated and bubble caps 5c are provided. Those edges of the trays which contact the shell 1 are provided with sealing means of the type described with reference to Figs. 4 and 5 of Specification 1,035,337.
