Abstract
1,100,832. Heat exchanger tube supports. BIRWELCO Ltd. 9 May, 1966 [19 Feb., 1965], No. 7160/65. Heading F4S. In a shell and tube heat exchanger, the tubes 17 are spaced from each other and are supported within the shell by supports 22 arranged at spaced locations therein, each support comprising a stack of thin plates 23 welded together and being arranged to support all of the tubes at each location and being apertured at 25 to permit shellside fluid flow. As shown, the plates 23 are circular to fit inside the shell, and have stamped-out circular apertures 24 for the tubes, and also apertures 26 through which support rods 27 are passed. The rods 27 prevent movement of the plates in their own plane and are fastened to the tube sheets (11, Fig. 1). The spacing of the supports is maintained by sleeves 30 located on the rods 27 between the supports 22.
