Abstract
1431785 Steam generator UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 21 Nov 1973 [22 Dec 1972] 59453/72 Heading F4A A heat exchanger, in particular a liquid metalheated steam generator, comprises a cylindrical vessel 1 containing an annular shroud 5 and an annular baffle 6 defining inner and outer coaxial chambers 7, 8 within the shroud, and a plurality of tube units 3 each comprising at least one series 4 of U-tubes 2 whose limbs 2a, 2b are parallel to the axis of the vessel and are arranged on an involute curve relative to the axis, one limb of each tube being in the inner chamber 7 and the other in the outer chamber 8. Each unit 3 preferably comprises two series 4, the tubes of each series lying in an involute plane and being clamped to support bars 26 which engage notches 28 in vertical spacing bars 29 extending along the walls of annular shroud 5 and of annular baffle 6. Liquid metal rises in central duct 9, flows downwardly in chamber 7, upwardly in chamber 8 and leaves the shroud through apertures (24), Fig. 1 (not shown), to leave the vessel through outlets (12). The tubes 2 leave the vessel through tube plate (13). which has apertures (31), Fig. 5 (not shown) having clearance and to which they are sealed by welding to sleeves (32).
