Abstract
1,217,638. Fluidic flip-flop. BENDIX CORP. 8 May, 1969 [4 June, 1968], No. 23519/69. Heading G4P. A symmetrical fluidic flip-flop can be set or reset in the absence of a control signal or of a count pulse. It comprises a first stage 10, a second stage 12 fed with pressurized fluid from a source Ps and a feedback loop through pipes 22, 24. If a fluid count pulse is emitted from passage 18 it can go down passages 26 or 28. If it enters passage 26 it is held by fluid attachment wall 25 and, by entering an interaction region 40, deflects fluid from source Ps into passage 46. A pressure gradient is set up across region 40 causing a clockwise flow round loop 22, 24 which is not strong enough to deflect the pulse held to wall 25. If, however, a fresh pulse is emitted from passage 18, the flow deflects it down passage 28, hence resetting the flow from source Ps to passage 44 and reversing the feedback flow. If a set pulse from passage 14 is emitted then the count pulse flows down passage 26 and the output is reset. If no count pulse is present the set pulse flows down passage 22 and resets the output. A reset pulse from passage 16 operates in a similar manner. Vents 30, 32 prevent circulating flow in passages 26, 28 and thus output oscillation, and vents 48, 50 isolate the output from pressure changes downstream.
