Abstract
993,027. Mobile jib cranes. MOBILE LIFTING SERVICES Ltd. Aug. 26, 1963 [May 26, 1962], No. 20322/62. Heading B8B. A mobile jib-crane which luffs but does not slew is mounted on a semi-trailer 1, Fig. 1, and is counterbalanced for normal loads by the winding gear and for heavier loads by a towing vehicle 31. The front of the semi-trailer has a plate 32 which abuts a block 33 on the tractor if the crane starts to tip over. Four pairs of steerable wheels 3 are mounted on beams 4 pivoted to the chassis at 6. A winch 29 luffs the jib by a rope 25, which passes round sheaves 23 on telescopic struts 22, and a rope 20. To prevent self-luffing when the jib approaches a vertical position a weight 40, which is moved along guides 41 by a cable 42, is provided to counterbalance the weight of the sheaves 23. For handling heavy loads the track of wheels 3 can be widened. To lower the jib for transport a jack 39, Fig. 2, is operated to raise a track 38A which bears against wheels 37 on the jib foot thus enabling the pivot pins to be withdrawn. The foot of the jib is drawn to the rear of the trailer by a cable and sheave, not shown, and a locking pin 12 is removed to permit jib foot brackets 10 to be swung down into the position shown in chain dotted lines. The jib foot can now run back with the wheels 37 in tracks 38 until the jib is flat on the trailer.
