[Also in Divisions B7 and E1-E2] A container transporting trailer 2 has a load surface 3 at the ends of which are telescopic support tubes 5 swingable to either side and on which a bridge 41 is supported through trunnions 18. Each trunnion 18 is received in a bearing tube 19, Fig. 7, of the pivoted head 11 of a tube 5 and is supported therein by an extension 23 entering a bore 22 in a ring 20 within an outer ring 24 and movable axially by a mount b. Support pins 33, -34, Fig. 6, are located in end-pieces 37 of the trunnions and disc springs 40 provide a centring force on the trunnions. The bridge 41 has cross-beams 51, 52 movable along the longitudinal beam 48 on trolleys having guide-wheels on the vertical limb and carrying wheels which when the beams are positioned can be raised to lower the cross-beams into direct support by the beams 48. Grabs 50 are provided on the beams 51, 52 outside the bridge 41 to engage and lift the containers. In another arrangement, Fig. 9, the trunnions directly support carrier beams 215 which are secured to the containers by safety pins 29 and ropes 218 for lifting. In another arrangement the bridge has telescopic longitudinal beams while in another case the grabs 50 are replaced by carrier posts. Stabilization during loading is effected by folding supports 191, 192, Figs. 15, 17, pivotally connected to support shoes 15, 16 in turn pivoted on support rails 8, 9 pivoted at 173, 174 on the load surface 3. Telescopic supports 6, 7 pivoted on a plate 12 of the head run by rollers along the rails 8, 9 and as the support is swung out telescopic parts 196, 197, for example of the rail 8, extend until engaged by a stop 207 the parts being guided by a guide 208 having a slot 212 engaged by a bolt 214. In a final stage of lowering the bolt 214 leaves the slot 212 and support 191 engages the ground. Supports 191, 192, Fig. 17, may be extendable by a winch 199 acting on a rope 205 connected between the telescopic parts. Other embodiments of the stabilizing mechanism have different actuating and guiding means.
