Abstract

895,801. Hauling loads up ramps on vehicles. SPARROW, W. D. J. Sept. 29, 1958 [June 29, 1957; Sept. 11, 1957], Nos. 20600/57 and 28723/57. Class 78 (4). Haulage gear 42, 44 is provided for hauling loads up and down a ramp 12 which can be moved by power between the positions shown in Figs. 4 and 5. The ramp 12 may be moved by a single hydraulic ram or, as illustrated, by two rams 19 acting on projections 18 of the ramp. The ramp 12 terminates in extensions 22 which are automatically unfolded by a connection 31 to the downwardly inclined rear portion 4 of the vehicle platform. Legs 21 on the ramp 12 are lowered to a depending position, as the ramp 12 is lowered, either by a linkage or by gravity. The ropes 42, 44 for hauling loads up and down the ramp 12 can be wound in opposite directions on a single drum or may be operated by travelling blocks moved by hydraulic rams 38, 39, 40. The rope 40 passes through a slot in the vehicle platform to reach the remote end of the ramps 12. Jacks may serve to raise the front wheels of the vehicle when the ramp is in use. The legs 21 engage the ground only when the ramp 12 of the vehicle is under load. Further legs may be provided at the hinges of the extension 22.
