Abstract

705,916. Transferring freight containers to and from vehicles. AKT.-GES. WESER. Dec. 28, 1950 [Sept. 6, 1949], No. 31526/50. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4) A road vehicle for carrying containers is fitted with a turntable 2 carrying a platform which has an extension member or members 6 and which can be tilted to form, with the extension member or members, a bridge for moving containers between the vehicle and the ground. In the semi-trailer illustrated the extension members 6 comprise rails formed with telescoping extensions 7 and adapted to be tilted about either of hinges 5 and 5a, when the pin of the other hinge is removed, by a pair of hydraulic rams 8 carried by a frame 3 which is mounted for slueing on the turntable 2. The container may be pulled up the rails 6, 7 by a rope 9 which passes over pulleys 12, 13 and 14 to a winch 11 operated by a handle 10. The equipment may be constructed as a fitting for detachable attachment to existing road vehicles, and may serve also to move containers between the vehicle and a raised platform in a loading bay.
