Abstract
711,290. Double-deck vehicles with elevating upper decks. BROCKHOUSE & CO., Ltd., J. Aug. 5, 1952 [Aug. 2, 1951], No. 18293/51. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4) The upper elevating platform 11 of the trailer illustrated is restrained against lateral swaying by pairs of upstanding struts 18, 19 which extend at 18a, 19a above the elevated position of the platform 11 and are joined by transversals 18b, 19b. The vehicle is constructed as described in Specification 711,289 and the struts 18, 19 brace the guides 21, 22 for the upper platform against swaying. The struts may, however, engage the edges of the upper platform directly. The struts may be applied to other constructions of vehicle with a lower deck and an elevating upper deck, and may incorporate the elevating mechanism or, alternatively, the upper platform may be hinged about a transverse axis to the medial part of the front struts 18 and raised and lowered pivotally by a pair of hydraulic rams on opposite sides of the vehicle either adjacent the rear struts or between the rear and front struts. The platform 11 may be locked in its upper position by chains or other means or by the device described in Specification 711,289.
