580,879. Loading and unloading trailer vehicles. HUDSON, J. DONALDSON-. Feb. 28, 1945, No. 5023. [Classes 78 (iii) and 78 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXII] A tractor-trailer road vehicle comprises a loading platform provided with a lifting and lowering device at each end serving as a towing member for connection to a tractor vehicle or bogie, the devices being detachable from the platform to enable the load to be run off or on the platform from either end. As shown a platform 12, Fig. 1, for carrying a locomotive &c. is supported at each end on a bogie or tractor by means of suspension links 24 pivoted about axes 23, 26 on the bogie or tractor and platform respectively. Hydraulic jacks 28 connect the platform and suspension links and are used to raise or lower the platform from the ground, the jacks being connected to a removable transverse girder 34 on the platform so that the girder, jacks, suspension link and bogie may be removed from either end to enable the load to run onto rails provided on the platform. The platform comprises two built-up plate girders 42, 44, Fig. 4, forming a box-section at each side, which are connected together by built-up plate-section transverse girders 70, end transverse girders being provided with brackets which carry the jack hinge pins. Adjustable rails 43 are supported on transverse brackets between the side box-girders, and the pins 26 for the suspension links are housed in bearings fixed to the plates girders 42, 44, one bearing being recessed to receive a removable spigot bearing.
