The contacts of a plug-and-socket connector are mounted in a mass of elastomer insulation by means of hard springy sleeves adhesively joined to the insulation and having opposed shoulders which abut against complementary shoulders on the contacts to prevent longitudinal movement of the latter. The sleeve 15, surrounding a complementarily-shaped rod portion on socket contact 5, has a longitudinal slit extending from its forward end past socket shoulder 13 to allow the socket 5 to pass through its reduced diameter bore portion. When socket 5 is pushed through from the rear of body 1, its front part causes the slit sleeve to expand until shoulder 13 passes the corresponding sleeve shoulder, when the latter snaps back. A second shoulder 16 on rod 7 prevents any motion in the opposite direction, and to withdraw the socket a tool must be inserted through the front body opening and around socket 5 to open the slit portion of sleeve 15. The plug contacts 9 with rods 11 are similarly mounted in body 2. Sleeves 15, which are preferably of springy metal such as phosphor bronze, spring steel, may be joined to their respective bodies during moulding, or inserted into shaped bores and then joined by a heating process.
