A ventilator hood comprises a bonnet 27 movable between an open position (Fig. 2) in which it extends outwardly from a housing 25, and a closed position (Fig. 8) in which it is within the housing. The upper corners of the bonnet are fitted with T-section bolts 93 which slide in vertical slots 90 in mounting plates 42 and arms 82 are pivoted to the bonnet at 84 and pass through slots 79 in the mounting plates to be pivoted at 83 to wheels 70 which are freely mounted on pins 72 fixed to each mounting plate. Projections 80 on the wheels 70 abut the arms 82 when the bonnet is in the closed position to prevent further movement. Further projections 81 on the wheels 70 arrest the bonnet in the open position. Springs 86 connect the arms 82 to the housing to help to counterbalance the bonnet and nylon riders 92 are provided in slots 91 to form a sliding bearing for the bonnet. The side walls 52 and 53 of the bonnet pass, in the closed position, through slots between the front wall 26 of the housing and its side walls 31 and 32. The slots are covered by swing flaps, Fig. 7 (not shown), which are lifted into the housing by the sides of the bonnet when the latter is swung to the closed position. A blower (not shown) is provided in the housing to force collected gases to an exhaust port and the top of the bonnet and the front of the housing may be fitted with decorative panels.
