Abstract

[Also in Division F4] A sliding valve can be completely withdrawn from a duct through an opening in a frame arranged across the flue so that sealing members carried by the valve are accessible and the opening in the frame is closed when the valve is open by means co-operating directly with the frame. In an arrangement with a downwardly opening valve, the opening 1a in the frame is closed by a sliding member 4 operated by linkages 5, 6 engaging a pin 3 on the valve operating rod to close the opening when the valve 2 is fully retracted, and to move away from it as the valve is closed. Sealing strips 2b on the valve edges are accessible in the open position of the valve and air rushing into the duct past the partly open member 4 clears dust from the valve seat. A plate on the bottom of the valve closes the opening 1a when the valve is closed. In a valve opening upwardly, slides may be provided at top and bottom.
