[Also in Division B71 A carriage (see Division B7) for a ropeway is attached to a haulage cable 18 by a pair of clips spaced apart in the lengthwise direction of the cable, each clip having two gripper arms 20, 21 pivoted together by a pin 22 at one end, and being mounted so that while engaging the cable they are free to swivel to a limited extent relative to the carriage about an axis transverse to, and substantially intersecting, the centre line of the cable. The weight of the carriage and its load causes the gripper arms to grip the cable, the gripping force being transmitted by a rectangular reaction ring 31, slotted into the sides 10 of the carriage, to a pair of wedge members 30 which at their upper ends are provided with pins 32 engaging vertical slots 34 in the carriage frame, and at their lower ends have hemispherical surfaces 30b which engage part-spherical sockets in the gripper arms. Cross-links 33 connect the ends of pins 32, and a rod 36 in the ring 31 prevents the gripper arms from falling out when they are not engaging the cable. The surfaces 30b on wedge members 30 form the pivots for the gripper arms. In a simpler clip form, Fig. 5, the reaction ring 131 is rigidly attached to the carriage frame and bears directly on wedge faces 130 of the gripper arms 120, 121, which latter have cable gripping pads 123, 124 pivotally attached to them by screws 128 engaging in elongated slots in the gripping pads. The upper edges 126 of the pads 123, 124 form part-cylindrical surfaces, as do the corresponding faces 127 of the gripper arms.
