[Classes 78 (ii), 78 (iii), 78 (iv) and 104 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A stationary or travelling ropeway is laterally loaded by a lifting-carrier which, when elevated, carries a load support, places it on the ropeway and then releases it when its weight is borne by the ropeway. With a stationary rope 16, Fig. 3, the support 36 has one or more wheels 50 and a guard 41 to direct the rope below the wheels. The support base 44 carries a loadengaging hook 48 and the guard 41 is pivoted at 46 to the base 44 so that the load tends to keep the lower limb 52 vertical. The support has slots engaged by horns 80 on the carrier 26 which is raised by a rope 22 secured at 79 and steadied by a rope 88 and link 34. With a travelling rope 106, Fig. 5, the support 90 has a pivoted saddle 104, a counterweight 112, a handle 118 and two slots 97, 98 engaging horns 80 and pegs 124 on the carrier 120. The carrier has a guard 136 mounted on pivots 134 and having a foot 140 engaged by the rope 106 on insertion to close the guard. In a modification, Fig. 9, the rope 106 is engaged by a cable grip 152 comprising jaws 177, 179 carried by arms 176, 178, carried by a swivelling bracket 164,165. Arm 178 is pivoted at 170 and arm 176 has a pin 172 sliding in a slot 174 and carries a guide 196 for the rope 106. The guard 136 is slanted and may be reversed.
