Overhead travellers and transporters.-A trolly for aerial ropeways with means for locking the load in its raised position while transporting, is constructed so that a single cable and a back line serve for hoisting and transporting, the hoisting is effected through multiple pulley-blocks whereby a light winding-engine only is required, and the members that lock and support the load whilst transporting remain horizontal irrespective of the inclination of the ropeway and the carrier. The hoisting and transporting cable 17 passes through a multiple pulley-block 25 on the carrier 16. and through the fall-block 18, and is secured to the latter at 24. The fall-block is shown in its raised position in Fig. 2 locked and supported on pivoted jaws 62, 63, seen in plan in Fig. 6. The jaws rest on a frame 40, 41, which is hung from the carrier 16 by flexible yielding supports consisting of two ropes 36 passing over pairs of pulleys 34, 35 on the carrier so that the jaws can take up an horizontal position. In opening and closing the jaws, their slotted ends 66 pivot on vertical bolts 55, 56 in a rear frame 52 on the carrier; this frame and a similar forward frame 46 with vertical bolt 49 form guides in which the jaws 62, 63 are free to move vertically. The two frames 52, 46 are connected by longitudinal members 57, are pivoted to the carrier at their upper ends, and provided with flexible bracing members 59 so that the swinging movement of the frames may be limited and the gripping jaws kept substantially horizontal, and the frame may hang vertically when the standing lines are inclined. At the terminal point of the ropeway the carrier is locked by a pawl which engages the bolt 79, Fig. 2, and at the same time the ends 69 of the jaws 62, 63, Fig. 6 engage a wedge and are forced apart so as to permit lowering of the fall-block. A two-drum engine is used, and the back-line (not shown) is connected to the carrier.
