Abstract

1,146,167. Lowering loads. G.Q. PARACHUTE CO. Ltd. 1 Sept., 1967 [19 Nov., 1966], No. 51913/66. Heading F2X. [Also in Division A6] A device for lowering a person down a rope 25, Fig. 1, has a number of balls 22, 23, 24 which are held in a holder 15 pivotally connected at 21 to a lever 11 and can be forced into and out of frictional engagement with the rope by relative movement between the holder 15 and a conical sleeve 16 connected via arm 12 and pivot 19 to the lever 11. The person is suspended from ring 14 and operates the lever 11 to adjust his rate of descent. In another embodiment (Fig. 5), for lowering a person down a length of webbing 37, pressure-plates 36 are moved relative to the webbing by handle 28 connected via arm 27 to a screw 42 abutting the left-hand plate 36. The opposing plate 36 is fixed but adjustable in position by screw 40 and lever 52 connected thereto. The person is supported on the ends of the arms 26, 27 remote from the handle 28. If a load is to be lowered the handles are tied in an adjusted position.
