Abstract

983,863. Two position indicators. PLESSEYU.K. Ltd. July 14, 1961 [July 22, 1960], No. 25587/60. Heading G4F. An electromagnetic on-off indicator comprises a permanent magnet 7 carried diametrally on an indicator drum 6 capable only of limited angular movement, a brake being provided to hold the drum in either terminal position until a coil 8 is energized. When the coil 8 is de-energized abrake shoe 13 carried on the free end 12 of an L-shaped leaf spring 10, Fig. 1, is urged into engagementwith one or other of flats 14 on the drum. When the coil is energized, its core 9 magnetically withdraws the shoe 13, and the indicator is rocked to its other terminal position by interaction of the permanent magnet 7 with the poles of the electromagnet at the upper ends of pole arms 16 and the core 9. The electromagnet is energized in the appropriate sense according to the direction of drum movement required.
