Abstract

A stainless steel comprises: .C.0.03 - 0.11% .Cr.11.5 -35.0% (preferably 14-18%) .Ni.0 - 2.5% .U.0.001- 3.0% the balance being iron. The uranium is preferably present in the range 16-20 times the carbon content. The alloys may be air quenched from 1600 DEG F. or solution heat treated (1 hour at 1900 DEG F., water quench) followed by treating at 1200 DEG F. for 1 hour then water quenched. Specification 975,337 is referred to.
