Abstract
983,373. Waveguide rotatable couplings. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd., and M. H. GLOVER. Nov. 21, 1963 [Aug. 23, 1962], No. 32521/62. Heading H1W. A waveguide rotatable coupling comprises a first 1 and second 2 section of waveguide at right angles, a section 7 of coaxial transmission line, and a section 6 of transmission line (in the embodiment connected to the ridge 10 of waveguide 1) forming a transition from the first section of waveguide 1 to the section 7 of coaxial line; the inner conductor 8 of the coaxial line projects into, and at right angles to, the waveguide section 2, and the waveguide guide section 1, transition section 6 and coaxial section 7 are rotatable about the axis of the conductor 8. The small gap in the outer conductor of the coaxial line between the two rotating parts opens into the annular channel 26 containing lossy material 27. In the quasicoaxial transition section 6, which is rectangular, matching is provided by the copper ridge member 12 opposite the ridge 10. The assembly is secured by the threaded member 22 bearing on spring 21 and clamped by the locknut 25 assembly.
