Abstract

912,471. Aerial assemblies. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 27, 1961 [Nov. 14, 1960], No. 39059/60. Class 40 (7). [Also in Group XL (b)] In an aerial assembly, smooth transition between a waveguide feeder and a horn radiator (Fig. 1, not shown) is provided by a waveguide coupling 3, the curved internal surface 4a of which has a point of inflexion 16 where this surface 4 runs into alignment with the flared out internal surface of the horn radiator. The curved internal surface 4a preferably has a form given by the equation y=Ax<SP>4</SP>+Bx<SP>3</SP>+C, where A, B and C are constants and x and y have the co-ordinate directions shown. The waveguide feeder which has a rectangular cross-section is joined to a flange 6 of the coupling 3 and in this region the opposite sides of the coupling 3 are substantially parallel. The horn radiator is joined to a flange 7 of the coupling 3 and in this region the opposite sides 4b of the coupling 3 which are in alignment with the corresponding pair of opposite sides of the horn radiator follows the tangents to the curved portions 4a at the points of inflexion 16.
