Abstract
982,806. Magnetrons. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Dec. 10, 1963 [Oct. 22, 1962], No. 39893/62. Heading HID. The output coupler of a double-strapped multi-cavity magnetron comprises concentric cylindrical or frusto-conical members 19, 21 interconnecting the straps 15, 13 and the polepiece 17 and probe 31 respectively. The straps may be incomplete rings. Posts 41 extending as shown serve to neutralize capacitive coupling between the cathode 3 and the member 21. Additionally, apertures may be provided in the members 19, 21 to influence the resonant mode wavelengths of the magnetron. The polepiece 17 may have an inner section 25 as shown. In another embodiment in which the magnetron is coupled to a coaxial line, the probe 31 is terminated by a pinch-seal and also serves as an exhaust tube during the evacuation of the magnetron. The probe is connected to the inner conductor of the coaxial line and a bell-shaped member with an hermetic seal provides a window device for coupling to the line.
