Abstract
616,788. Magnetrons. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Feb. 15, 1945, No. 3889. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1944. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Group XL (c)] A coupling device for a magnetron comprises a hollow member 32 communicating with the interior of the magnetron and closed at its outer end by a cup-shaped member 36 provided with a window 37 for electromagnetic waves. The window 37 registers with the passageway 34 in the hollow member, and the inner wall of the cup-shaped member is spaced from the outer wall of the hollow member to reduce the temperature gradient across the window 37 and so prevent cracking of the seal. The cupshaped member 36 is sealed to a flange 33 on the hollow member 32, preferably by gold solder. A slot 35 around the outer end of the passageway 34 provides a quarter-wave choke. The passageway may be rectangular in crosssection and communicates with the resonator 28 of a multi-cavity magnetron 12 by a flared channel 31. An additional wave-guide may be coupled to the magnetron by sealing to the flange 33. The window 37 is of glass sealed into a bevelled aperture in the cup-shaped member 36, and is ground down after sealing. Specification 581,451 is referred to.
