Abstract

917,681. Magnetrons. M-O VALVE CO. Ltd. March 3, 1961 [March 10, 1960], No. 8567/60. Class 39 (1). [Also in Group XL (b)] A high-frequency electric discharge device having a high-frequency coaxial line connector sealed through insulating material forming part of the envelope of the device is coupled to an external coaxial line feeder through the intermediary of an external cavity resonator rigidly fixed to the envelope of the device in order to prevent damage to the insulating seal due to vibration of the feeder. The cavity resonator also acts as an impedance matching device. In the magnetron device shown, 10, 16 is the coaxial line connector, 15 is the insulating seal and 31 the cavity resonator which is tunable by means of the slug 35. The external feeder is connected to the cavity resonator 31 at 33. The inner conductor 16 of the coaxial line connector 10, 16 terminates in a probe 17. The magnetron is of the multi-cavity vane type, double strapped at each end of the anode block and with packaged polepieces. The magnetron envelope 1 and external magnet structure 23, 25 is embedded in silicone rubber 29 within a protective casing 27. The rubber 29 is injected into the casing 27 through the opening 28 which is plugged with thermosetting resin loaded with silica flour 30. The discharge device may have more than one high-frequency connector and may be associated with more than one cavity resonator, e.g. where the discharge device is an amplifier.
