Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A supercharged I.C. engine has regulating means 16, Fig. 2, for the gaseous fuel pressure in conduit D and a compressed air manifold A, arranged so that the gas pressure is regulated in dependence on the air pressure in manifold A by means of a pressure capsule 25 which acts on adjusting means 24 for the regulating means 16. Air pressure is communicated through conduit 41 to capsule 25 which acts on a servo-lever 27 to which is pivoted a servo-valve member 29 and a servopiston 28, acted on by pressure servo fluid controlled by the valve member 29, Fig. 1, so that the position of the piston 28 corresponds to the manifold air pressure. The piston 28 acts on one end of a floating lever 24, which is pivoted at its other end through a link 37 to the speed control lever 11 of a governor 10 which controls the air throttle 40. Lever 24 carries a roller 24a which acts through a thimble 22, spring 23 and an abutment piece 20 on the stem of valve 16. Opening movement of valve 16 is resisted by spring 18, spring 23 and annular weight 21. The pressure at which relief valve 16 opens is varied in accordance with air pressure and governor speed control setting. The link between lever 24 and spindle 12 can be replaced by a cam and follower arrangement and in a further modification lever 24 is pivotally connected between its ends to compressor-speed controlling means.
