Abstract
976,375. Hydraulic transmissions. G. H. TENNANT CO. Sept. 10, 1962 [Sept. 13, 1961], No. 34476/62. Heading F2C. [Also in Division E1] In a power sweeping machine for roads the main sweeping brush 32 is driven at a constant speed by a power unit 36 irrespective of the rate of propulsion of the machine which is controlled by a variable hydraulic transmission means disposed between the motor 36 and its driving wheels 12. The motor 36 has a power take-off shaft 85 for pumps 86A, 86B, 88A, 88B as shown and is provided with a belt and pulley drive means 34, 35 and 61, 62 for the brush and a blower 60 respectively. The pumps 86A, 86B are connected to a curbbrush driving motor 77 and a jack 45 respectively, the latter member affecting lifting of the dust collector 50 through links 41, 42 for discharging purposes. The blower 60 discharges clean air over a cooling coil 71A for the hydraulic fluid. The pumps 88A, 88B drive a propulsion motor 20 under control of a reversing valve 135 and a by-pass throttle valve 145, both cam-operated as shown. The pumps are connected in parallel to a common supply line 89 having a filter 90 and each have an outlet connected by way of a regulating valve to a common sump. The regulating valves 123, 128 of the pumps 88A, 88B respectively are set at different pressures and have their outlet conduits interconnected as shown with a check valve 125 therebetween, so that with light loading both pumps supply liquid to the motor for high speed drive, while under higher loading conditions pump 88A is relieved through valve 123. Additional pumps may be used, each being associated with a relief valve opening at a pressure higher than that for the preceding pump. All the pumps and valve units are incorporated in a common interchangeable sump housing 82. In a modification, Fig. 4 (not shown), the blower directs air over baffles mounted on the sump housing 82. Specification 973,178 is referred to.
